Reading | Students will begin the process of learning procedures expected during Independent Reading, Literacy Groups, and Read Aloud. They will begin reading a book of choice during independent reading. |
Writing | Students will generate ideas for writing in their writing notebooks. |
Spelling | Students will sort words according to vowel and consonant patterns, short and long vowels, and abc order. A test will be given on Friday. Words for this week are: fruit, twig, sharp, theme, brief, when, thank, brave, scout, plot, front, scale, clean, clog, climb, phone, stain, quit, trust, quote |
Math | Students will begin a unit on Place Value. Week 1 Multiplication Test will be on Friday. |
Science | Students will begin a unit on Classifying Plants and Animals. |
Social Studies | Students will be introduced to the regions of the United States. |

Week of 8/30/2010
Reading | Students will begin the process of learning procedures expected during Independent Reading, Literacy Groups, and Read Aloud. They will begin reading a book of choice during independent reading. Students will begin their Reading Log this week for homework. They will read for twenty minutes and then write a 1/2 page journal in their Reading Log notebooks. This is due everyday and is worth a total of 100 points. |
Writing | Students will generate ideas for writing in their writing notebooks. Students will identify the subject and the predicate in complete sentences. |
Spelling | Students will sort words according to vowel and consonant patterns, short and long vowels, and abc order. A test will be given on Friday. Words for this week are: swim, yell, swimming, rest, run, sit, yelling, resting, stand, running, pass, sitting, pick, standing, jump, put, picking, putting, passing, jumping |
Math | Students will continue a unit on Place Value. Week 2 Multiplication Test will be on Friday. Please ask your child to show you his/her Week 1 Multiplication Test. |
Science | Students will begin a unit on Science Process Skills. |
Social Studies | Students will be introduced to the regions of the United States. |
